Hello Dear Reader,
Welcome back to another month — I’m so happy you’re back! This month’s newsletter is going to be a real treat (pun intended).
Diving right in, so many of my friends either just had their first baby or are in the midst of pregnancy bliss! Maybe you find yourself in this situation, or maybe you’re thinking you couldn’t be farther from it. Nevertheless, this month’s issue can be applied to people in any season of life.
I present: THE SERVINA THEMED BABY SHOWER!
Let me note, for you that do not have any relation to this at this time, all these ideas and suggestions can be used towards other avenues!
While the saying goes, “April Showers, bring May flowers, & May flowers bring June bugs,” I find that the most common thing popping up in the spring is babies, so let’s jump right in!
KNEE SLAPPER THURSDAY

VERSE OF THE MONTH
“…for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”

SERVINA
While Michigan has been taking its sweet ol’ time warming up, Servina and I were happy that the sun did finally make a little bit of an appearance. At least long enough to sit out on the lawn in some camping chairs and chill.

THE BEST BABY SHOWER EVER: SERVINA EDITION
A party is only as good as its host, as well as its theme. As promised, here is the secret to a very Servina Baby Shower!
| First thing’s first: |
The Invitations

First impressions matter, right down to the invitations! It’s the fabulous way to kick off the theme.

The Guestbook

There are a million different types of guestbooks, and let me tell you, 98% of them end up in the trash — I know, been there done that.
But this is a stellar way to incorporate your guests for the long haul! Each guest can sign their name to a page, leave a message, or if you want, even color in a page.
The Decorations

They key to keeping on theme is incorporating your colors! Brown, blues, and whites are key. Now, some might say, “I’m having a girl, I don’t want to use blue!” It’s a quick solution: substitute the blues for creams!
The Food

You can’t have a puppy themed baby shower without some Puppy Chow! It’s a delicious and simple way to tie in your theme! Cookies, cakes, and cake pops are another subtle way to spread the theme all throughout the shower.
Personally, my favorite out of these four is the fire hydrant drinks. Such a cute and easy idea!
The Favors

Let me just say, how stinkin’ cute!
Fill your to-go doggy favor bag with whatever you want! Some things that you can put inside are sweet treats, ChapSticks, lotions, and so much more!
BOOK REVIEW
“DUNCAN’S WAR”
This month’s book is “Duncan’s War” by Douglas Bond.
My Overall Opinion:
Now before I even get into this review; yes, I know that this book was written for a younger demographic. Nevertheless, I specifically chose this book for its story and potential moral themes. I did enjoy the suspense of the story, figuring out who is betraying them, the suspense of the looming war, and the key themes of freedom and faith. I thought that Bond did a pretty good job of showing how as Christians we must love even those who persecute us. I did feel like Bond could’ve done a better job with the character development, that it was found lacking a bit. Where he did excel, I felt, was bringing the Scottish accent to life.
My Favorite Character:
Oddly enough, the character I was most intrigued by was Matthew, the shoemaker. I wanted to know more about him and his story. The dog was a close second.
Things I Didn’t Like / Would Change:
It wasn’t that I would change this, as it was very important, but I did find that there was a bit of an information dump in the first few chapters. Again, without this, you wouldn’t be able to understand multiple themes occurring in the story. But I did find that it slowed the story down just a bit.
Ranking:
4/5 — The story overall had very strong Christian themes and reminders, which was nice. I did also enjoy the dive into history.
Other Comments:
While there is no film or TV adaption to this book, I couldn’t help but think about the film “Braveheart” as I read.
